Free health activities at Prom Xtra thanks to charity partnership

21st April 2017

Categories: News

For the second year running, Conwy County Borough Council is teaming up with the National Charity Partnership, a collaboration between Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Tesco, to help residents get active, have fun and look after their health at Prom Xtra.

Families can enjoy a range of fun and free activities at Prom Xtra in Colwyn Bay on Saturday 13 May.

The activities will be funded by the charity partnership as part of its Let’s Do This campaign. The campaign encourages people to take small steps towards healthier lifestyles by signing up to free local activities.

The taster activities on offer at the Let’s Do This Beach Zone at Prom Xtra include sessions between 10am and 6pm, of rugby with the Welsh Rugby Union, kayaking and sailing with Colwyn Bay Watersports, cricket with Glamorgan County Cricket Club, Commando X-fit, triathlon, and surfing.

There will also be a Let’s Do This Healthy Living Zone where people can get expert advice from local fitness instructors on how to achieve their goals and find out about physical activity classes available in the local area. And with taster sessions between 10am and 5:30pm to suit all fitness levels and interests, don’t miss the opportunity to have a go.

The National Charity Partnership – which is dedicated to helping people reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes and heart and circulatory disease through physical activity and eating healthily – will also be launching a new Conwy cycle programme for families at the event.

Matthew McKee, Prevention Programme Manager for the National Charity Partnership said “Our Let’s Do This zones at Prom Xtra aim to inspire people to find out about the great activities available in Conwy County.

“We hope that by giving people more opportunities to get active, it will encourage them to think about their wellbeing and start making small changes towards better long-term health.”

The National Charity Partnership is calling on adults in the UK to look after their health and encouraging people to take on their 8-week challenge to help them set simple, realistic goals to move more and eat better.
