Regenerating Properties in Colwyn Bay

6th March 2017

Conwy County Borough Council and Torus Property Solutions (TPS) are working to carry out an area-based regeneration programme in Colwyn Bay.

Funded through the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places scheme, the major external improvements to the properties along Abergele Road and the surrounding area are now nearing completion.

The commissioned work focused on improving the energy efficiency of the Victorian terraces and flats.

Councillor Sue Lloyd-Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing, Social Care and Health said, “I am very proud of the success of the Colwyn Bay project, which undoubtedly reduces fuel costs, improves housing conditions and creates a community which can be truly proud of its surroundings.”

Steve Brazier, Operations Manager at TPS said, “We are really pleased to be working in North Wales, and particularly with Capita and Conwy County Borough Council. Originally we were taken on to carry out improvements to 40 properties but the total soon went up to 56 when further funds became available.”

Steve adds: “Throughout this contract we have also been able to give on-site placements to six full time learners from Grwp Llandrillo Menai, with one apprentice joiner securing a full-time job as a window fitter.”

Marc Billington, Programme Area Manager for Construction at Llandrillo College, Rhos on Sea said, "Thanks to TPS and Conwy County Borough Council our learners had the opportunity to put their skills and knowledge into practice. It also shows that demonstrating hard work and commitment during work placement opportunities can lead to bigger and better things."
