Only North Wales Boys Aloud at Access All Eirias in June

16th April 2015

Categories: News

The much anticipated debut of the world's biggest boy band, Only Boys Aloud complete with boys from North Wales will take place at this year's fabulous Access All Eirias at Eirias Stadium in Colwyn Bay on Sunday, 7 June.

Only Boys Aloud will feature the full choir of 13-19 year olds from the south along with boys who are being recruited at rehearsals this month in Holyhead, Caernarfon, Rhyl and Wrexham. The big stage at Access All Eirias offers the pan-Wales choir their first live performance, where they join an expanding family line-up of headliners The Vamps and Foxes.

It has been announced that another local voice will take to the stage on 7 June, with the Ruthin Rapper, Joe Woolford, a recent contestant on BBC1's The Voice joining the growing line-up. Joe was coached by Rita Ora on the show and got as far as the live semi-finals, where he performed Labrinth's Jealous, and sang with Rita and fellow contestant Karis on their version of Magic chart-topper Rude. Afterwards Joe told Emma Willis the experience had been "unreal", adding: "I auditioned for series one and I didn't even make it on to the show."

Access All Eirias promoter, Pablo Janczur of Wales' largest independent music promoter, Orchard, said: "We're excited that Access All Eirias will be the first live appearance by the expanded North Wales Only Boys Aloud to increase the family appeal of the event even further. With great pop acts The Vamps, Foxes and now Joe Woolford, it should be a great day out, and there are more acts still to be announced."

Only Boys Aloud is celebrating its fifth year in 2015, during which time they have experienced some incredible highs, including the final of Britain's Got Talent, singing at Buckingham Palace, and recording a Top 40 Christmas album.

OBA Music Director Tim Rhys Evans said: "It is terrific that we are now able to involve boys from North Wales in Only Boys Aloud, a region with such a fantastically rich choral heritage. We always aim to recruit lads from every type of background and with our policy of neither charging nor auditioning, we hope that hundreds more lads will give choral singing a go, maybe for the first time. Access All Eirias gives us a tremendous opportunity to bring the whole choir together for the first time, and we can't wait."

Rehearsals for North Wales begin on 20 April, any boy aged 13-19 is welcome, regardless of experience. There are no auditions and no fees for taking part, the message is - just come along and give it a try!

Rehearsal times are:

Wrexham: Bamford Suite, Wrexham Racecourse Stadium Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.30pm.

Rhyl: Rhyl Pavilion Theatre Mondays 6.30 - 8.30pm.

Caernarfon: Caernarfon Rugby Club Mondays 6.30 - 8.30pm.

Holyhead: Holyhead Football Club Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.30pm.

OBA North Wales Project Manager Eleri Watkins said: "This is a really wonderful opportunity for the boys of North Wales, which will change their lives and broaden their horizons. We have found a wonderful team of captains who will lead the local rehearsals, and are really looking forward to taking to the stage at Eirias Stadium on 7 June."

This project will be launched in style on Friday, 17 April with an event at Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Access All Eirias is supported by Conwy County Borough Council, Bay of Colwyn Town Council, and media partners Capital FM; Daily Post; and North Wales Weekly News. Access All Eirias is also supported by Principality Building Society, which is supporting the event for the fourth year in a row. The Principality is also the principal funding partner of The Aloud Charity.

The production has won national awards for the event organisers, Orchard and Conwy County Borough Council, the Production Partnership of the Year prize, in the 2013 National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Awards, while Conwy's Communications & Marketing Team also picked up the Event Organiser of the Year award.
